The 18-week Medical Office Specialist course is a customized job skills training program focused on the skills needed for jobs in the healthcare field. Training topics include history of healthcare, Medicare basics, medical coding and terminology, and insurance billing. Computer literacy, math concepts and business soft skills are also an integral part of this training. The 27th Medical Office Specialist class graduated in March 2008 and our graduates have found high wage/high demand jobs in medical offices, clinics, hospitals and insurance companies. This is a FREE class for income eligible parents.
Qualifications/Skills Requirements
- Interest in a medical office specialist career as a Patient Care Rep, Patient Account Rep, Medical Receptionist, Medical Billing & Coding
- High School Diploma (or GED required upon completion of this program)
- Some experience with computers and keyboarding
Additional Information
This program has the strong support of numerous local medical employers. Starting wages are between $13-$14 per hour with health, dental, and vacation benefits. Some employers have on-site child care.This program trains student to work in multiple healthcare and medical office environments as a Medical Office Specialist. Skill areas include:

- CPT coding
- HCPS forms
- UB-92 forms
- CMS 1500 (HCFA) forms
- Medicare and Medicaid
- Computer skills and customer services
- CPR & First Aid Training
